Tracing Stone Island’s Legacy original stone island badge With The Brand’s Greatest Fan
How did your obsession with his work and Stone Island start
Archie Maher: I reckon it was round three years ago, when I was about 18 and i bought one of my first items on eBay. stubs It occurred to be a vintage piece, which I fell in love with immediately. It’s a pink and white nautical striped Marina t-shirt which has by no means left my collection, though I’m sadly too big for it. A couple months later I purchased a couple of vintage jumpers and a jacket, and it just snowballed from there. There was one thing about rocking these items that I loved, by way of their quality, comfort and overall aesthetic.
In terms of Arco Maher, by the point I obtained to uni I’d already been gathering and selling vintage Stone Island for some time and wished to take things further. My Instagram page really aims to produce and showcase the most interesting and distinctive Stone Island items from the 80s/90s and early 2000s. So I began this venture the place I conduct these shoots and lookbook movies, and experiment with the clothes being worn by a wide range of fashions. From there I’ve had a couple pop-up outlets round London, which have been great, allowing me to curate exhibition spaces showcasing my work and meet fellow lovers.
How many pieces have you got
Archie Maher: Rah, I by no means actually know. However I feel I’ve most likely got about 160 pieces in the mean time. There’s about 15/20 items I’ll by no means be capable to half with unless I’m horribly broke…. As a result of I really just adore them a lot and fear that I’ll never come throughout something like them again.
And you solely gather from a particular interval, right
Archie Maher: Yeah, I really only collect pieces from 1982 (when the model was began) to the early 2000s. I’m not massively considering any items after 2006. I try to source the majority of the items from the 80s interval as a result of that’s when Osti was working issues earlier than he left round 1996. I’m all the time trying to find items from the Marina Range as that’s my obsession.
What have been the visuals like back then
Archie Maher: They were fairly different really. I have these amazing lookbooks from the early 90s, which beautifully painting the clothing by itself. Massimo was typically reluctant to photograph the clothes on fashions, as he believed it was finest to present the clothing by itself without any distraction and in its pure form. Even within the early 2000s the visuals have been very minimalist.
These days it’s absolutely modified – their casting is actually good, and they’re always getting models of different ethnicities. That’s definitely essential and something I do each time I organise any shoots. It also helps overcome the stereotype and any lingering racism related to soccer hooliganism and the casual tradition.
What else had been you going for with your personal shoot
Archie Maher: The director and photographer of this film Will Reid and that i came together to work on this challenge, where we wished to contact upon the exclusive Paninaro concept – by capturing these guys and women from the twenty first century sporting these stunning items from the 80s and 90s. We titled the movie The brand new Paninaro paying homage to the brand’s first subculture. Basically, I used to be eager for the movie to coach people in regards to the amazing items Stone Island have created and let people know it’s not simply in regards to the badge.
